Business Skills Module: Communication in an Intercultural Environment

Goal

IT-Professionals have long held an active roll in globalization; their work takes place more and more in an international circle. The goal of this module is to improve the cooperation and collaboration among colleagues and customers from different cultures.

Examples of Use

Especially for IT-consultants, who are (will be) sent to other countries for projects; all IT-experts who work in multicultural teams.

Contents

  • Cultural relationship to perspective, appraisal, and evaluation processes

  • Dimensions, patterns and values of cultural differences

  • Stereotypes and prejudices

  • Direct and indirect communication

  • Perception and interpretation of nonverbal signals

  • Early recognition and resolution of potential conflicts


Results

The participants are aware of the cultural imprint on their own thinking, feeling and acting. They see differences as enrichment. They can deal with culturally unfamiliar behaviors and situations.
