Business Skills Module: Successful Communication

Goal

Teaching IT-Professionals, whose training and occupational focus is in working towards technical solutions, the foundation of successful communication with conversational partners in professional daily life.

Examples of Use

Everybody needs these skills! Mastering them is the prerequisite for all the specific communicative competences such as e.g. advising, acquiring customer requirements, selling, negotiating, and many others...

Contents

  • Basic models and basic patterns of communication: knowing what takes place when we communicate

  • Definition of the factual and relational levels

  • Communicating without words: body language

  • Understanding: active listening; targeted questions

  • Being understood: clearly communicating personal suggestions and ideas

  • Clearly communicating complex (technical) information – also on non-IT-experts!

  • Addressing critical and unpleasant topics

  • Giving and accepting feedback

  • Persuasive argumentation

Results

The IT-experts have examined their communication behaviors in their occupational day to day life and where and how they can improve them. They can tune themselves to different conversational partners and have goal and partner oriented conversations.
